We're Celebrating Our 3rd National Night Out, Oct. 2

Strong community ties are a huge reason why Woodridge Forest residents love living here. So, we are thrilled to be celebrating our 3rd annual National Night Out 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborly camaraderie to make our neighborhoods a safer and more caring place to live. Each year, this event has grown in size and popularity. We hosted 600 Woodridge Forest residents and neighbors from surrounding communities last year. This year, we are aiming for more neighbors to gather at the Woodforest Community Center to have fun and enhance our relationship with law enforcement.

"I started hosting National Night Out three years ago and at that time, it was a small get together with a few local hospitals and vehicles," said Sarah Herd, community ambassador for Woodridge Forest who plans the event. "Today, it has grown to more than 30 participants, 14 vehicles and exciting activities for children. Vendors and law enforcement agencies are contacting us to come be a part of it. I think people see what we are doing and want to be part of that experience, too."

Among those appearing this year will be representatives from the Montgomery County Constables Office, the Porter Fire Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Montgomery County Emergency Communications (911), Montgomery County Crime Lab and Homeland Security. An officer will conduct a field sobriety simulation test and the Texas Rangers will offer a Distracted Driving Rollover Convincer. PHI Medical Helicopter will do a fly over. Plus, MCHD Ambulance paramedics will show off their ambulance.

Also at the event will be Neighbors Free Standing ER, Kingwood Hospital, Next Care Urgent Care, the Woodridge Forest Crime Watch Program, the NCISD Best Buddies program, Kings Manor PTO and D.A.R.E. International. Our friends at the R.B. Tullis Library will be issuing library cards for eager readers. Kids will enjoy face painting sponsored by Nightlight Pediatrics, a 25-foot climbing wall courtesy of Kingwood Emergency Hospital and a trackless train sponsored by Kids in Action.

Finally, the pool and splash pad will be open, there will be a dunk tank, kids can meet exotic animals at the petting zoo and Smokey the Bear and everyone can memorialize the night at the free photo booth. Granny's Tamales and Kona Ice will be on hand with food for purchase. It's going to be an exciting evening.
